What is EFT?
Clinical Emotional Freedom Technique is a tapping sequence applied with fingertips to acupuncture points on your body. These acupuncture points are referred to as acupoints. Pressure on acupoints has been shown to be as effective as acupuncture. Within the theory of acupuncture, vital life force energy flows through pathways called meridians. When the flow of energy is interrupted, dis-ease can occur. Acupuncture and acupressure can restore a balanced flow of energy and resolve troubling conditions. In the early 1960’s, an American chiropractor, George Goodheart, after being introduced to acupuncture, realized he could treat physical conditions successfully by tapping on acupuncture points without the use of needles. Over time other practitioners developed and published techniques with similar protocols. Today the use of these approaches has become widespread; clinical EFT being a validated version. Millions have been exposed to its benefits and have shared it with others, simply because it works. Over a million people suffering through natural or human caused disasters have been treated with EFT, according to charities that offer aid to these victims (Capacitar, 2013; TREST, 2010; Veterans Stress Project, 2013).
How does EFT work?
Clinical Emotional Freedom Technique works simply and scientifically; it is a variation of the original technique that has been developed and researched extensively by Dawson Church, PhD. He ascribes to its effectiveness because of the uniformity in the application and because of the dozens of scientific studies proving its results. As we bring to mind a negative emotional experience, we interrupt that memory with a statement of self-acceptance while at the same time stimulating an acupoint. The stimulation of the acupoint is perceived by our mind as soothing, and overrides the negative memory. EFT greatly reduces the emotional intensity with which we once responded to a past negative event, breaking an emotional, mental, and physiologic cycle.
